Informational technology(IT) and informational systems are everywhere. These different systems are greatly intertwined with our lives and many of us would find it difficult to live without them.
These technologies and systems contain both negative and positive things for society. Some positive things include finding more information in less time. It has speed up our lives from doing a simple search on Google vs. rummaging through a library to driving to work or school instead of walking. As mentioned before IT and IS is integrated in so many of our basic tasks today such as phone alarms, emails, and digital games that as a society it would be difficult for us to return to an age where these systems didn't operate. However there is a downside to this onslaught of technology. As these systems get larger and larger reaching and connecting people around the globe many things are being lost. IS and IT systems allow for a global standard and an integration of different cultures and in this process what makes one culture unique to another is slowly fading away. Another issue these systems provide is that they take away our privacy. IS and IT systems are so heavily used especially the different systems on the internet that "privacy" is almost a thing of the past. It is possible for these systems to track where you are most of the time, they track what you bought at the grocery store, what your favorite websites are, schools or companies that you have attended or worked at, and your buying trends. Overall I would say that I am a fan of IT and IS because it has created a easier life for me in comparison to my ancestors, however I do feel as if there are definitely things I give up in order to use these systems.
