The Super Bowl is here! Time for players to show off their skills and play the best they can at the ultimate Football showdown. So many aspects go into the game and make it fun and one of the most important SAFETY. In recent years there have been controversies regarding injuries sustained to the head and how to prevent the damage being done. Has Sam Browd, a neurosurgeon at Seattle Children's Hospital thought that there had to be something to better protect the head for his young athletes and so he partnered with Dave Marver and Per Reihall. All three are connected with Seattle based universities and have backgrounds in medical technology and mechanical engineering. Together they began VICIS, a company addressing ways to deduce concussions. VICIS worked on producing a better helmet intended for football players and last month they released the Zero1 helmet with help from the University of Washington. As stated by Forbes this helmet is unlike any seen before. This is because VICIS through out the conventional helmet approaches and started from scratch with a purpose of protecting the head from concussions. This revolutionary new helmet has the elements of physics behind it and is works to disperse the impact given. Due to the uniqueness of the helmet and the quality of its product the helmet has the price tag of $1,500. The reason for this as stated by Marver is, "We didn’t seek to make the least expensive helmet. We sought to develop the best helmet that we could, the safest helmet that we could." The product will initially be available for select NFL players and as it is perfected VICIS would like to bring it down to the college and high school levels. As time and technology progress the company plans on releasing newer and cheaper versions.
