Computers and informational systems play a large role in everyday life, and I could not imagine life without them. Throughout the first week of class we discussed what an informational system was and were asked to really think about our daily lives and how IS interacts with them. I realized I love IS.
As a student I use them to communicate with people, research, and to get to places. As a student it is virtually impossible to live without using any informational systems. Phones and computers are necessary requirements in nearly every field of study and will be essential to our working careers. IS has made many people's lives simpler, but many relationships more difficult. Growing up in an era of the phones and computers has created a communication breakdown. Yes they have made communication among distance and large groups of people easier, however many people only know how to communicate virtually. Earlier this year I did an experiment to see how long I could survive in my day to day life without requiring my phone. It lasted all of a week. Looking around I noticed that everyone nearly everywhere had a phone within arms distance at any given time. When I would try and start a conversation with someone on the bus, they would nervously say a few words then quickly returned to the comfort of their phones. IS has done great things for society as a whole and I do not wish to go back to a time without them, however I do believe that it has caused a lot of issues to arise as well. ~Alex
